Healing Garden Just What The Doctor Ordered

THE GIGGLY TUNE of rippling streams and the sweet scent of fresh air can be a source of healing when people are not well. Even I who was not ill felt refreshed after stepping into the Healing Garden at the Delta Hospital in Ladner where I visited recently.

Contemplating the beautiful swoop of a heron's sculptured neck, I was grateful that the hospital, once designated to be closed due to cutbacks to the health care system in BC, is providing scaled down but important medical services thanks to people protesting its demise.

It is early in the season for most blooms yet a sense of serenity hovered over the tiny plot of land designed for peace and meditation.

Soothing thoughts trickled inside my mind. Surely the work of doctors and science is enhanced when patients let faith in their recovery flow freely.

Watching nature renew inspires the notion that healing is possible and, indeed, organic.

This therapeutic garden of the mind could be the best medicine.

  2. Very lovely. I can feel its healing quality through my computer screen.

Thank goodness people protested to keep this facility open. I'm getting rather tired of hearing about government cutbacks while they continue to spend on things we don't need. I have no idea what politicians are thinking when they do so many of the things they do.

  4. So love the idea of a healing garden at a hospital! Imagine the pleasure people tied to the hospital for awhile would get being able to be a part of Nature for awhile!

  6. Beautiful captures of a lovely place and I, too, can feel its healing quality through my computer screen. I'm so glad this place won out over the government -- but then I'd better not get on the subject of government in general!! Thanks for sharing the beauty! Hope you have a lovely week!

  9. I so agree “This therapeutic garden of the mind could be the best medicine." Hospital staffs are clever creating such a garden which would make up for the downsized hospital. Like your soothing thought of flowers, I imagine the sight of plants glinting with both sunshine and their germinating energy from within soon.
