DON'T FENCE ME IN

THE FENCE at high tide that flows into the water at Crescent Beach is a great place to post a sign about swimmer's itch.

It also acts as a landing pad for birds that flock to the area.

Bouys strung like white pearls along the water, and the fence, are cues for dog owners to keep pets within certain perimeters so as not to agitate the wildlife.

Seals to seagulls can swim, float or waddle on either side of the barriers.

They examine the strange constructs and artificial borders with seeming interest but are not bound by them. That is the inherent nature of life in the wild that is outside, yet also alongside, the creations and activities of mankind.

  9. Diverse visitors to the fence; people, pets, wildlife, waves, and even inanimate sign. The seal who looks resting his chin(?) on the floating barrier is so cute. I heard about swimmer’s itch for the first time and felt itchy only to read about it from the site. Thank you for the comment. Umbrellas always remind me of you, Penelope.
