THE US ELECTION did not go the way many Canadians expected but I found comfort wearing my Hillary Clinton socks. Although this Christmas gift from my daughter kept my feet warm during a cold spell in Southwest BC, my footing is shaken. I now see that tried and true institutions, norms of decency, the facts and even democracy can unravel anywhere like a cozy old pair of socks.
Not only people but plants need comforting it seemed when I discovered this fisherman at the entrance to Crescent Beach draped in a housecoat.

Oh I do love your sox and the plant draped with warmth ~ lovely photos and I share your concern of what might 'unravel' in the USA ~ Half the country is not very happy ~ it is 'strange' times.
ReplyDeleteWishing you Happy Days ahead ~ ^_^
Your socks made me smile. Your President elect doesn't give me any hope of smiling.
ReplyDeleteJust a note to say not my president-elect but US polices do effect Canada and the world so it is all quite concerning.
DeleteAre you gonna walk a mile in her shoes or in her footsteps? Maybe you should wear them to the women's march.
ReplyDeleteGood idea, Colleen! There is a women's march in Vancouver on January 21 and I hope to attend.
DeleteI love those socks! Over here in Europe we are looking to the US with trepidation...
ReplyDeleteAs a distant onlooker I have to agree with you, but wear your socks with pride. I love them.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the Hillary socks! Your darling daughter does find interesting gifts. I'm with you on the US election issue, and this week is particularly chilling. Very scary stuff. Out-chills Alberta winters by a long shot. I can't see any positives in the prospect of you-know-who in charge of the US and the potential for horror in his abuse of power. I just hope he surprises us all and recants his campaign threats.

Seeing those socks on you is rather comforting, Maria! I've never felt like this about any president-elect, but I won't be able to watch the inauguration. I think, until the day actually happens, I will continue to believe that somehow, this is all a bad dream. Once the day is over, even though I won't watch the ceremony, I know the sick feeling in the pit of my stomach will settle in big time. The fisherman with the robe brings my grandfather to mind, though I never met him. As always, a thought-provoking and wonderfully observant post.
ReplyDeleteYour sox made me smile, but only briefly, when I think what might ((should) have been. I'm so afraid and like one of your commenters above I do will boycott watching he Inaguration. I wish I could say he is not my president. And I understand and agree that this affects the whole world, not just "us".
ReplyDeleteAnd by the way I would keep on wearing those socks if I had them, except it is too hot here.
I love the socks! Good to have something to smile about. I didn't make it to the Women's March in Washington but that's something else that has me smiling.
